Unpacking and designing the new studio. Look for updates later this month.
All my designs are crafted in my studio - which occupies about 75 percent of my space. Only the retail portion in front is open to the public - for your safety and my sanity. There is a full metal shop and leatherworking space where my grandsons assume all Nanas have 20-ton hydraulic presses and British rolling mills. Handwork not made at the front desk take shape on my dining room table or from the passenger seat on road trips.
I am proud to incorporate the work of other artisans into my work including my Czech beads and buttons made by people in Jablonec I adore, pendant silks from a local fabric artist, local Native American leathers , rusted iron and pewter pendants from Lipstick Ranch in Colorado, sustainably sourced stone from a Minnesota family business and so much more.
In 2022 I spent more than $4,500 at Goodwill and St Vincent dePaul on vintage flatware and serving pieces, leather pieces and ready-for-repurpose vintage jewelry - as well as all the lamps and display pieces in the shop.
There is tremendous joy in revealing fresh beauty in items discarded as damaged. (That's why you will inevitably find me with dirty fingernails and a shop apron). Yes, I still purchase boxes for gift purchases , but always offer a fabric bag alternative..
